Open Water 2009
Lancaster 4 – University of Loughbourgh 4
Lancaster 8 – Fleetwood 3
Lancaster 0 – Leeds 0 (Leeds failed to show)
Semi Final
Lancaster 1 – Carlisle 3
3rd & 4th
Lancaster 4 Yorkshire 4 (Lancaster won in penalties)
The team went up to Nottingham for a social event and a bit of water polo. They knew they wouldn’t get far in the Competition as all of the other teams where senior men.
Lancaster were shocked when the where playing their sister club Carlisle in the semi final. Carlisle had a stronger and older team plus a couple of extra bandits from outside their club. Lancaster did well to keep the score down to 3-1.
Carlisle went on to the final and lost to a strong Castleford team which had a lot of Great Britain Junior team members in it, including Lancaster player Ciaran James.
Lancaster played Yorkshire in the 3rd and 4th play off. By half time they were three nil down, but this didn’t stop Lancaster and by the end of the final whistle Lancaster pulled it back to 3 – 3.
Lancaster and Yorkshire agreed on a penalty shoot out. Yorkshire took their 5 shots first, but only scored one; Lancaster had to put only 2 of their 5 balls in the back of the net, which was no problem for the Lancaster team.
The whole event was topped off the larger than life Emergence Services themed BBQ and disco evening and true to form Lancaster rose to occasion with a cunning disguise as a fire rescue team, with fancy hats and custom t shirt off to the party we went!
upon arrival we wowed the thronging crowed with our hat juggling routine and our impromptu mosh pit, and with a few hours partying under our belt we retired to our bivouac enclosure for some well deserved R&R unlucky for us not everyone on the camp site agreed with this strategy and carried on the party well into night / morning with some rubbish sleep behind us the tents were pack in double quick time we ate the welcome breakfast and beat a Hastie retreat home.
Thanks to the team &everyone involved for a quality weekend bring on next year!!!!!!!!!!!
