Day one – British Championships
Saturday, February 6th, 2010
Lancaster City went into the 2010 British Championships with four of their players missing. Scott, Alex and Glen are all out in Australia taking part in the National Water Polo league . Chris is on holiday over in Australia.
With four players down, Lancaster City signed two new players, Paul Coweburn and Danielle Maggioni who came over with Lancaster coach Alberto Bertolotti from Italy. Mike Brown, one of Lancaster under 18’s players, made his debut game in the British Championships after an ever improving time in the National League in 2009. The final change of the team was reserve goalkeeper Zak Sly making his debut playing outfield.
The first game for Lancaster was against Scottish team Portobello. Lancaster started off a little slow but quickly took the lead and finished the game winning 13-7. Tom Curwen scored 7 goals.
Lancaster second game was against Cheltenham. Lancaster took full control of the game and won 18 – 10. Colin Burgess slotted 5 goals away and Ciaran made sure his name was on the score sheet with four goals.
Lancaster have now qualified for the semi final but still have rivals Bristol to play tomorrow. They need a win to play the 2nd place team in the B group.
