Owain Llewellyn has been playing water polo for four years. His first water polo game was for Ripley St Thomas in which he didn’t want to play and didn’t want to have anything to do with water polo! But his school friends convinced him to go. The Ripley coach Zak Sly asked him to play in goal for the first half and
told him he would be swapped out. But the Lancaster Water polo Coach and goalkeeper himself saw a potential goalkeeper in him and with hard work and determination Owain is one of the best 17 year old goalkeepers in Great Britain!
Owain has been named in the GB u-17 provisional squad which will compete in March’s European Games qualifiers in Malta. Owain is one of two goalkeepers which will represent GBR. London 2012 Olympic Captain and GBR under 17’s coach Craig Figes and Greg Harper have been impressed with Owain in goals and Greg commented how well Owian has been playing for Lancaster in the Super‘s.
In Malta, the GBR boys will face Germany, Switzerland, Malta and Latvia, with the top two teams qualifying for the Baku 2015 Games in Azerbaijan, which will be held in June.
The 16 players vying for a place in the final 13 are:
Owain Llewellyn, James Barker, Ben Tinkler-Davies, Ashley Castle, Spencer Wilks, Kams Powell, Sam Alberici, Ben Riding, Hamish Hudson, Sam Carling, James Warman, Fredie Pearson, Charlie Briers, Scott Wilson, Matt Helps & Ben Greenhill.
